For Homeowners and Property Sellers

DC Smoke provides smoke alarm servicing and monitoring to ensure Queensland homes meet compliance standards. So you can have complete peace of mind when it comes to selling or living in your property. Every property put up for sale in Queensland (from Jan 1, 2022) demands smoke alarms upgraded to the new AS 3786-2023, previously AS 3786-2014.

To make it even easier, we offer a comprehensive compliance package that ensures any issues with your alarms over 12 months will be handled by DC Smoke. This includes free call-outs and maintenance, giving you additional peace of mind.

Have you upgraded your smoke alarms?

We can provide you with a quote to upgrade your sales property to meet these new requirements. If you have already upgraded your smoke alarms in QLD to the new AS 3786-2023 requirements, you can book an inspection to complete a thorough check that you are meeting compliance to these obligations.

We will provide you with a smoke alarm compliance certificate at the end of the inspection if your smoke alarms pass this check. This certificate is a requirement to sell properties in Queensland. Without it, you may be faced with unpleasant surprises, penalties or make your property less appealing on the property market.

If your home does not pass this check, we will provide you with recommendations in our report to get your property up to these new standards.

It’s about keeping our neighbours and communities safe.

At the end of the day, it’s about more than just compliance,

For Homeowners

After a smoke alarm upgrade service that gets your home up to these new standards in Queensland, your smoke alarm will not need to be replaced for 10 years.

This is because these QLD smoke alarm standards mandate that all installed smoke alarms are no more than 10 years old. They must also be hardwired into your electrical system or be equipped with a non-removable 10-year 240v lithium battery.

Once installed, you can easily handle smoke alarm maintenance on your own.

Keep your smoke alarms in perfect working condition, by remembering to:

Every 3 months

Test your smoke alarm by holding the test button for 20 seconds until you hear a beep. All the alarms in your home should beep when you do this if they are interconnected.

Every 6 months

Vacuum your smoke alarm.

Every 10 years

Replace expired smoke alarms.

When do I need a Smoke Alarm Service?

While you can handle most of your smoke alarm maintenance, such as cleaning and testing by yourself, it’s important that you reach out to a professional electrician ASAP when you face any of these issues.

You’re getting false alarms

False alarms unfortunately happen, and they tie up emergency firefighting services and can also mean fines. When a false positive happens, don’t panic. Press and hold down the reset button until the beeping stops. Dust, spiders, insects, humidity, steam, or burnt toast smoke can cause your alarms to go off, so make sure you’re properly cleaning and ventilating your environment. Otherwise, it can also be a sign of low battery charge and it’s time to replace those batteries.

If you still can’t get to the bottom of this problem with these tips, you can call our experts to get to the bottom of the problem for you.

A smoke alarm isn’t responding

If you test out a smoke alarm and you find that the device or others interconnected to it aren’t beeping. Call us, and our electricians will diagnose and resolve the issue. If the system was installed by us, we’ll cover this service at no extra cost.
